Data Centre Construction

Construction of a Data Centre or Computer Room includes creating the walls, ceilings, floors and doors. This is a specialised room and therefore the construction has to follow a number of 'best practices', from ensuring that the walls are slab to slab, to fire rating the shell and creating a floor to take the weight of the equipment.

Building the Shell
For internal construction of a room, the choice is between traditional construction methods (partitions) and modular composite panel construction, which is growing in popularity due to the swift nature of the build process. For external construction, traditional blockwork construction can be utilised or, again, a modular approach can be adopted. Keyzone specialise in the modular panel construction technique, as well as adopting traditional approaches where they are optimal.

Raised Access Floors
For Computer Rooms these are used to protect the pipes and cables required in the room and to create a plenum for the A/C Downflow system. There are medium, heavy and extra heavy types of floor, which relate to the loadings the floor can withstand. The correct choice has to be determined by analysis of the fully-laden IT racks and their positioing within the room. As well as the standard tiles, which constitute the majority of the floor's surface, there are also Grille Tiles, which allow cooled air from the Air Conditioning to be directed to the correct locations as required.
