Skew
Compensation
for
CAT5e
and
CAT6
cables:
CAT5e
and
CAT6
cables
have
variations
in
the
pair
lengths
causing
delay
skew
when
transmitting
video
(monitor
signal).
Delay
skew
is
the
difference
in
time
(measured
in
nanoseconds)
between
the
fastest
and
slowest
pairs
of
a
cable
for
a
signal
to
travel
from
one
end
of
the
cable
to
the
other.
When
transmitting
video
over
UTP
cable,
a
lower
delay
skew
is
preferable
to
minimize
colour
separation.
Colour
separation
occurs
when
RGB
signals
arrive
at
different
time
intervals
at
the
receiving
end
of
the
cable,
which
is
identified
by
the
noticeable
colour
"bleeding"
with
the
video.
Cables
that
have
uniform
twists
in
the
pairs
will
have
less
inherent
delay
skew
since
the
length
of
the
pairs
will
be
consistent.
To
correct
delay
skew
when
using
CAT5
extenders
connect
a
`Skew
Compensator`
at
the
remote
end
of
the
extender;
many
of
our
units
now
have
integrated
skew
compensation,
eliminating
the
need
for
external
skew
units.
The
skew
compensator
is
used
to
add
delay
to
the
faster
pairs
causing
the
RGB
signal
to
be
presented
in
synchronisation.
Skew
compensation
is
only
required
at
the
remote
end,
therefore
our
range
of
KVM
Rack
extenders
(transmitters)
are
not
effected.
