Every computer site and server room has to dispose of obsolete, unwanted or damaged magnetic media from time to time.
In the past disposal of media consisted of throwing it in the nearest skip. This is no longer an option – it is illegal – for 2 reasons. - Security of Data.
- Environmental Protection Issues.
Security Compliance with financial regulations, security of company data and the Data Protection Act all require that information, whether it is personal, organisational or financial, is held and disposed of securely.
It is therefore essential that every organisation has a secure and traceable methodology in the collection, removal and destruction of magnetic media and the data thereon.
Environmental Protection In the past magnetic media was dumped in landfill sites with household and general rubbish. However it was quickly realised that magnetic media does not break down and decay.
It is no longer lawful to dispose of magnetic media in this fashion.
Keyzone Methodology Permanent employees of our Data Warehouse collect magnetic media from the customer site. This work is not farmed out to a transport company.
The media is removed to our Secure Data Warehouse where it is quarantined, checked and counted.
It is boxed securely and removed to the commercial incinerator of our choice, where it is totally destroyed using the latest eco-friendly process.
A certificate of destruction is issued at the site and sent to the customer. |
